Cultural Itinerary
Friends for five decades and based in Bahia, French anthropologist Pierre Verger and Argentine artist Carybé were deeply linked to the spread of Afro-Brazilian culture. Since 2017, Forts Santa Maria and São Diogo, historic landmarks of the Bahian capital neighboring Barra, have housed permanent exhibitions that pay homage to the two artists. At Espaço Pierre Verger da Fotografia Baiana, located in Fort Santa Maria, around 4 thousand images are gathered. At Espaço Carybé de Artes, in Fort São Diogo, it is possible to view 300 works by the artist. Also check out Pierre Verger's work in the Lobby of the Hotel Fasano Salvador.
