Modernity and Tradition

Over the past 40 years, the Fasano Group has experienced four significant moments. It began with the opening of the first restaurant, where Gero Fasano discovered his passion for gastronomy. The inauguration of the second Fasano defined his gastronomic identity. The third milestone was the opening of the Fasano Hotel in São Paulo, introducing the Group to a new sector. The fourth crucial moment was the partnership with JHSF in 2007, driving international expansion. With 10 hotels operating in Brazil, the United States, and Uruguay, Fasano’s excellence also extends to its 30 restaurants, in addition to the Emporio Fasano.

  • 1902

Fasano’s history began in 1902 when Vittorio Fasano, an Italian from Milan and patriarch of the family, arrived in Brazil and inaugurated the brasserie Paulista, located on Antonio Prado square, at the historical center of São Paulo.

  • 1947

After Vittorio passed away, his youngest son, Ruggero, was sent to Italy by his brothers to complete his studies at the Escola Real de Moncalieri, near Turin. Ruggero returned to Brazil, and soon took over the gastronomic legacy of the family, starting by re-inaugurating in 1947 the Fasano restaurant on Rua Vieira de Carvalho, also in the center of São Paulo city.

  • 1958

In the 1958, it made its way to Avenida Paulista and set up its gastronomical business in the recently inaugurated Conjunto Nacional. In this newly acquired space reserved for dining and entertainment, Ruggero Fasano opened a bakery and a winter garden, which raised the curtains to a scenic city view that staged shows whose history evokes a pleasant nostalgia in many city dwellers. It featured international attractions such as Nat King Cole, who was applauded by celebrities as David Niven, Marlene Dietrich and Ginger Rogers.

  • 1980

In 1980, Ruggero’s son, Fabrizio Fasano - an executive with a degree in business administration in the United States, and former owner of a beverage industry - invited his son, Gero, to open a new restaurant inside Shopping Eldorado. At the time, Gero was thinking of pursuing a career making motion pictures, but the close ties he had to his grandfather, Ruggero, weighed on his decision to take over his family’s tradition of entertaining, under the supervision of the experienced Fabrizio.

  • 1982

A new Fasano restaurant, smaller and classier, emerged on Rua Amauri. Years later, in 1990, the restaurant moved to Rua Haddock Lobo, in Jardins neighborhood.

  • 2003

In 2003, with the opening of Hotel Fasano São Paulo Jardins, the restaurant moved to its interior, on Vittorio Fasano Street. The inauguration of the Hotel marked a new challenge for the group and the fulfillment of Gero's dream.
